Amethyst and Diamond Flower

Superb quality diamond and amethyst Victorian flower pendant c.1890.

The diamonds are a mixture of old-cut and rose-cut. The facetted pear-shaped amethysts are of the deepest violet.

The brooch fitting is entirely removable having a screw thread and the pendant fitting is concealable.

I have seen amethyst and diamond pansy brooches from this period but this design has two diamond tendrils between the petals and possibly symbolises a passion flower.

In the language of flowers the passion flower signifies belief.
