Amethyst Fox Fob

Impressive early Victorian 15 carat gold fob seal with fox masks carved to both sides and an amethyst armorial crest carved in intaglio.c.1840.

The crest depicts 3 boars, a lizard and a demi-dragon representing the ancient Irish family McSweeney.The legend beneath reads ‘Buail ape cabal a nuaz’ which I believe to be Irish Gaelic.

1.4 inches length. Intaglio 1 inch wide.
