Unusual mourning ring depicting a hovering butterfly,a popular Victorian motif symbolising the last journey of the immortal soul. Carved in cameo on onyx,flanked by two pearls to a carved substantial shank.Inscribed to the interior 'Elizabeth Chute died 27th July 1842 aged 73' with a glazed hair locket.
4.9gms,ring size UK K 1/2,US 5 1/2. Very fine condition though slight abrasion to tips of antennae.
