Augustus III (also known as Frederick Augustus II of Saxony) was the King of Poland and Elector of Saxony from 1733-63.He was a ruler whose historical legacy is defined by political failure remembered more by his being a patron of the Arts for an extraordinary cultural Golden Age. A deeply pious family man he utterly neglected statecraft while transforming Dresden into a world-class capital of art and Baroque Architecture.
