Georgian Cuffed Hand Pendant
15ct gold Regency hand pendant c.1820.
The elaborately cuffed hand holds a wreath and has a tiny cabochon emerald ring on the index finger.
Formerly a clasp for a fine Georgian guard chain the tongue of the clasp is now converted for easy wear as a pendant or charm, but the tongue still functions as it would have always have done.
Entirely textured and chased, the cuff is formed as a sunflower and two leaves, to the reverse the cuff has a trefoil design.
The hand motif in jewellery can symbolise loyalty, strength, romance, fidelity and good fortune.
