Raphael’s Angel Heart Pendant

Victorian 9 carat gold and enamel heart pendant c.1880 featuring an image of one of Raphael’s angels from The Sistine Madonna.

Excellent condition.

Heart is 1.5cm excluding bale. Just under 1 gram.

The Sistine Madonna by Raphael was a hugely popular painting in the 19th century. In 1803, German painter von der Embde portrayed the pair alone,the first to do so. By the mid-to-late 19th century, the cherubs' dreamy, resting poses lead  to their reproduction on textiles, printed porcelain and even enamel jewellery.
