Sicilian Baroque Pendant

Sicilian Baroque enamelled bow pendant c.1700.

High carat gold, enamelled in blue, pink, white and black in the classic tradition of Southern Italian c17th and c18th jewellery. The addition of multiple pearl drops is also typical of this tradition.

The loose bow is depicted as part of a similar pendant in Peasant Art in Italy by Charles Holme(1913).(see illustration). The drop on this particular pendant is modelled as a enamelled dove, symbol of peace and Divine grace, resting on stylised foliage.

Though there are losses to the enamel as is to be expected of this genre, the piece is remarkably original and intact, with no signs of restoration.
