The snake encircles the central banded agate with a glazed locket to reverse.

The fashion for snake jewellery increased with Queen Victoria’s engagement to Albert in 1839 when she received an emerald serpent ring representing enduring love and commitment.Mourning jewellery had adopted snake symbolism from the late c18th to convey the cyclical nature of life,death and rebirth.
