Late Georgian agate ‘eye’ ring c.1830.
Original simple 15 ct gold skinny band and bezel with cut-down pie-crust setting.
Condition excellent, some age related wear to setting.

Banded ‘bull’s eye’ agates have been highly prized as protective amulets across Europe, the Mediterranean, and the Near East since Ancient times. It was believed wearing a realistic stone "eye" would reflect malice and ward off the Evil Eye. Georgian jewellers frequently reset ancient Roman or Islamic eye agates into contemporary, high-carat gold rings, but also cut agates en cabochon to imitate the earlier pieces.
