Baroque Psyche

Uniquely mottled 17th century Baroque agate cameo of Psyche in shades of reddish brown,cream and black with fine red streaks. Psyche was the wife of Eros and the Goddess of the Soul,always recognisable by the butterfly wings,here worn attached to the 'tainia' around the head.

Wonderful use of colour by the lapidarist.

Later 18 carat ring mount,Roman setting.

Size 7.5.

Cameo 2.5 by 2cms. 11.1 grams.
