Georgian Mourning Pendant 1753

Rare form of Rococo mourning pendant  in high carat gold with ribbon scrolled enamelled border bearing the motto 'Above Our Union Will Be Consumated'. A poignant and tender sentiment referring to the belief that in Heaven you will be reunited with loved ones for eternity. The reverse is enameled with the dedication to 'John Bagot died 5 June 1753 aged 53'.

Central vacant sealed crystal just under 1 inch diameter. Enamel near perfect.
