Long curved Georgian paste crescent pendant c.1800.

2 rows of foiled colourless pastes set in silver with later gold bale.

3.5 inches length. 9.9 grams.

The crescent as a motif was deeply tied to Diana, Roman Goddess of the Hunt, the Moon and the Wilderness. The crescent moon is often depicted in Diana’s hair or hovering over her head. This paste crescent would likely have been originally worn in the hair, seen to scintillating effect by candlelight.
