Regency Butterfly Fob Seal

Exquisite Regency textured 15 ct gold fob seal modelled as a resting butterfly c.1820.

The wings of the insect are studded with turquoise, the platform with turquoise and cabochon foiled crystal.

The base is set with a carved citrine, the intaglio is derived from Pliny’s Doves, reading  ‘L’Amitie’ with two doves drinking at a water basin. This popular motif signified two souls sharing from the same source of life, representing loyalty, harmony, and mutual devotion between close friends or lovers.

2.5 cms high.

Base 1.8 cms by 1.5 cms.
