Queen Anne period Stuart Crystal skull pendant dated 1702.
The oval rock crystal cover is fully rose-cut, the high carat gold setting is typically dog-tooth, the woven hair panel beneath is bordered with fine gold thread, with gold cipher SS and tiny enamel skull and crossbones above.
The reverse is inscribed S.S. Obt 14 May 1702 aeta 23.
Formerly a ribbon slide the fittings were absent and now converted for use as a pendant.
Beautiful example with a particularly characterful skull.
