Victorian Rose-Diamond Swallow

The finest rose-diamond pavé-set swallow brooch c.1880.

The swallow is portrayed in flight and has a well modelled head set with cabochon ruby eyes. All stones are closed back, set in silver and gold.The pin is curved to the body of the bird and there is a small original fitting for use as an aigrette. How fabulous this would look in the hair.

3.9 cms by 2 cms.

Swallow jewellery was  popular from 1870 to the Edwardian era. As swallows mate for life, the motif represented an unbreakable bond, fidelity, and steadfast love.
