Regency Carnelian Scent Bottle Pendant

Charming early c19th carnelian miniature scent bottle pendant with 18ct gold cap,mounts, original bale and chain. c.1820.

Small shell-like carnelian body, engine turned gold, rope twist elements, textured bale.

Scent bottle and stopper 1 inch, with chain and bale 1.8inches.

These tiny perfume pendants were useful as vinaigrettes or pomanders, containing precious oils which could be inhaled when desired in the not always pleasant-smelling atmosphere of Georgian society.

Remnants of perfume soaked sponge in the tall stopper which can easily be removed if one wishes.
